Are you feeling proficient on a certain piece of equipment? Become a Trainer or an Owner!
Owners' team are responsible for organising practical trainings and maintaining the equipment. They are the backbone of our community: without them, new members wouldn't be able to get trained.
They buy consummables, fix the machines, and liaise with the Management team for big purchases or improvements.
Owners' team are comprised of two types of people: the Owners and the Trainers.
The Trainers schedule training sessions on meetup and show people how to use the machine safely.
To be come a Trainer, you need to:
Be recommended by an existing trainer (or owner if we didn’t have any trainer left on this piece of equipment)
Have shadowed a training session
Have given a training session whilst being shadowed.
Already be an owner on that station (All trainers must already be Owners but not all Owners necessarily train.)
The Owners are responsible for taking care of the machine, fixing what needs to be fixed and buying consummables.
To become an Owner, you need to be recommended by an existing owner.
What do Owners do?
Buy consummables
Improve the area
Liaise with Management
Each station has a budget of 1000£ per year for improvements - this is at the discretion of the Owners, no need to ask for approval.
Owners make their own decisions on how to manage this money and make sure they don’t overspend (some uses a spreadsheet, others have the same person buy everything, etc.)
If they need more or something more expensive - ask management.
In case of doubt, Owners should err on the side of caution and ask Management for advice.
Orders should be placed through Amazon with Makespace’s account, or through a Manager or a Director who has a Makespace credit card.
Do not buy anything with your own card - Reimbursement is difficult at our level as it gives more work to the accountants.
