Note: this video is not about our exact belt sander, but most of the information is applicable.
What it's for: Removing material fast from flat surfaces: levelling boards, taking off old finish, and shaping edges.
How to use it: Clamp the work. Push the vacuum hose fully onto the dust spout (using the universal adapter - look in the top of the Festool vac). Start it off the work, lower it flat, and keep it moving with both hands on the grips. Lift it off before switching off.
Safety: No gloves. Wear glasses, ear protection and a dust mask: all wood dust is harmful. Keep the cord clear of the belt, and wait for the belt to stop before putting it down.
Protect the machine: Check the belt tracking before you start - if you don't know how to track the belt, ask for help before using. Don't sand the power cord. If anything goes wrong, submit a trouble ticket!
